Philippine tennis sensation Alex Eala just reached a new career high in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.

Alex rose to a career-high No. 18 on August 24, jumping two notches after her impressive run at the Wimbledon Open and Cincinnati Open.
With this achievement, she is now the highest-ranked Southeast Asian tennis player in history. She has surpassed Indonesia’s Yayuk Basuki and Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn, who both reached No. 19 in the rankings.
Basuki reached No. 19 in October 1997 and retired in 2013, while Tanasugarn achieved the same ranking in May 2002 before her retirement in 2010. Meanwhile, Thailand’s Paradorn Srichaphan made history as the first male player from Asia to reach the top 10 of the men’s singles rankings, with a career-high ranking of world No. 9.
The US Open will run from August 30 to September 30 in New York. She will play mixed doubles with Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The 21-year-old tennis star is also set to compete at the Singapore Tennis Open this September.
