Who Butchered My Fave Reality Show?

Strategic players?

It had a decent cast. Not everyone was stellar, which is understandable, and only very few people stood out in terms of strategy.

The succeeding seasons were all right. I guess the show’s successful enough in terms of ratings and advertising to last for 4 seasons. But as the show went on, I’ve lost interest mainly due to frustration about the treatment of the show.

Let me just say that this is not just my opinion. I’ve spent a lot of time in Survivor forums and interacted with other hardcore fans who shared the same sentiment. For us, it’s like singing a remixed version of the national anthem. Something that was butchered.

The succeeding seasons had hits and misses, though. But the one thing that really blew my hat off was the final tribal council in Season 3 where the remaining castaways AND the jury had to vote off the last contestant. I thought that twist was unfair because it took the power away from the remaining players. That stupid twist resulted in the ouster of the most strategic player of the season.

Aubrey Miles Survivor Philippines

No one in 4 seasons of Survivor Philippines has played a very solid game like Aubrey Miles, who was shockingly eliminated at Final 4 due to a stupid twist that allowed jury members to vote with the remaining castaways to eliminate the last player.

It’s been a year since the last Survivor Philippines installment and there were reports that rival network, ABS-CBN, will be acquiring the rights for the show.

Well, based on how ABS has successfully made Big Brother into a profitable franchise, I have high hopes for Survivor Philippines 2.0 if rumors turn out to be true.

No more singing Idols

Filipinos are in love with singing competitions. When Jasmine Trias made it to the Final 3 of American Idol 3, the entire nation paid attention and developed a love affair with this Fox hit show. But let’s admit it. We tune in to Idol every week to hear what Simon Cowell has to say.

Whether or not you’re just in for Simon’s tongue-lashing, American Idol is interesting to watch especially with Filipino-Americans in different seasons.

Nothing was ever heard from these Idols, except Gian Magdangal, after the show wrapped up

So when the now-defunct ABC 5 acquired the rights to the Idol franchise, everyone paid attention. It was actually a good show. The host, judges, and contestants were good as well as the overall treatment of the show, except for that glitch where the sound system failed while the first contestant, on the first episode, is singing. Talk about making a bad first impression.
