WATCH: Foreign Film Group Shares the “Resilient Spirit of Filipinos” in Visayas Video

Visayas has been gaining more and more popularity as a travel destination in the past decade, with areas like Cebu and Bohol in the forefront. A lot of the surrounding provinces are just as beautiful as well, like Leyte, where the now-famous Kalanggaman Island can be found.

But there is a story behind all those beauty. And in this video made by travel filmmaking group Wow Tapes, they capture a story not many know and understand. Here is what they wrote:

This is not the usual travel video from Wow Tapes. More than the art form, we believe that video making is also about telling stories. For this project, we tried to capture various shots of individuals from various sites in the Visayas in Central Philippines.

The project was shot in Calbayog and Catbalogan in Samar Province, Tacloban in Leyte, and Bantayan Island in Cebu for a period of six days. Three years ago, their lives were changed forever as Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest tropical cyclones to make landfall in recorded history, took away their livelihood, their possessions, and for many, their loved ones.

This is the reason why a lot of people may not recognize familiar spots in this video which was done on purpose. Our team tried to shy away from the usual tourism spots and focused on the daily lives of the people doing their everyday routines. We created this video with the mission of showing how people in the Visayas are rebuilding their lives with a subtle invite for the audience to visit and discover it themselves.

This video is an attempt to show the resilient spirit of the Filipinos guided by their unwavering faith providing a different perspective on tourism in the process. After all, tourism is also about the people who make every place and experience truly unforgettable.
