Abunda clarified that his lack of a platform, such as his evening show Tonight With Boy Abunda, he would have had the space to be vocal about his thoughts and feelings about the ongoing issue. He also added that the loss of his home network had been a huge blow on him emotionally that he needed time to process the pain he felt.

“When I am in grief, I am quiet. When I am in pain, I am quiet. I don’t like being fussed over. I don’t like people paying attention to me. I like to be quiet. I like to think. It takes a while for me to be able to embrace all the pain completely,” he shared.

He said that his choice to stay silent first doesn’t mean that he did not get hurt or did not get angry. He believes that everyone just has their own expression of grief.

With regards to his colleagues who have lost their jobs, Abunda couldn’t help but be visibly emotional, stumbling over his words and holding back his tears.

“People are crying, people are lost. This pain is real. I’m not talking about data. I’m not talking about statistics. I am talking about real people who are suffering, who are in pain, who don’t know what to do,” he said.

After talking about an employee, Mavic Oducayen who had died of a heart attack after hearing the news of her termination, Abunda added, “‘Pag pinag-uusapan ang pagsasara ng (When we talk about the closure of) ABS-CBN, this is something that is real. This is a pain that I feel. Not just my pain, but the pain of people who I’ve worked with for years, for decades.”
