WATCH: Ben&Ben Releases Hauntingly Sad and Beautiful Music Video for ‘Lifetime’

“Was there a lifetime waiting for us in a world where I was yours?”

Local band Ben&Ben has dropped its much-awaited music video for their single “Lifetime” which was inspired by a fan’s heartbreaking story shared on their YouTube page.

To those who haven’t heard of the story, the fan, who went by the name “Anne Jou,” lamented on her biggest regret in life which was to hide her feelings from someone she truly loved for the sake of not ruining their friendship. To quote her, she said:

โ€œโ€ฆinstead of telling him what I actually felt, I hid and buried my feelings. And you know what happens to feelings that are buried? They grow. The like I felt for him became love. I wrote poems, songs. After 8 years, I attended his wedding [last] January. And guess what? The world is really overly-cruel. Before his wedding, he thanked me for being his best friend and told me that before he met the girl he got married to, he loved me first. For 5 years. But he was also scared of losing me so he just decided to keep it. I was shocked and I slightly had anger towards the world. We didn’t know that if only one of us dared to make a move, a lifetime was waiting for us. So people, while you can, please express how you really feel so that in the end you won’t regret anything.โ€

Ben&Ben then penned “Lifetime” and released it in June. Now, nearly two months since, the nine-piece band created the music video which perfectly captured the sadness and beauty of yearning for a love that one cannot keep.

We first meet a painter who finishes a piece of a woman and displays it in an art gallery. One night, he lies down to sleep in front of it and wakes to find her physically present with him. They then walk through the gallery together, holding hands and even sharing a dance. However, the painter soon wakes to realize that it was all a dream.

After “Lifetime” was released as a single, Anne Jou thanked the band “for being one of the main reasons why I still think the world is a beautiful place after all I experienced.”

And although she’s still defeated by her experience, she’s happy that it was turned into something amazing that many others can enjoy. “I may be broken but hey, at least I got some Ben&Ben song right?” she said.
