The post quickly went viral, sparking curiosity and speculation online. Many wondered who the woman was and what she was doing in the underground sewer. Some even floated theories about people possibly living beneath the streets.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced on May 29 that the woman from the Makati drain had been located.
In a Facebook post, the agency said its Pag-abot Team is currently talking to the woman to provide the necessary assessment and intervention based on her condition and needs.
As of this writing, the DSWD has yet to reveal the woman’s identity.
Meanwhile, according to a report by ABS-CBN, authorities stated that three individuals were seen taking refuge in the drainage system, citing CCTV footage that showed them entering the opening. Their investigation further revealed that the individuals are street dwellers in Brgy. Pio Del Pilar.
Shortly after the woman emerged from the Makati drain, authorities installed railings to cover the opening.
