Vanessa Hudgens Opens Up About Having Her Quarter Life Crisis at 27

Now at 30 years of age, Vanessa Hudgens has embraced the beauty of growing older. But, like everyone, she went through a tough time in her mid-20s when she had lost her sense of direction and purpose in life.

“I remember waking up at 27 and that was the first moment where I was like, ‘Oh. I am not a kid. I’m not a teenager. I’m an adult and I have responsibilities.’ I felt like I had no idea who I was or what I wanted or what I was going after,” Vanessa said in an interview with PEOPLE.

Despite the quarter-life freakout she endured, which may have also been the result of losing her father, Greg, a month prior to her 27th birthday, she now looks back on it as a blessing in disguise.

“I’m very grateful for it because then it forced me to reassess who I am and what I believe in, therefore giving me just a better understanding of myself,” she said. “Now that I’ve reached 30, it’s so nice feeling free to just speak your mind.”

The High School Musical star also realized the value of self-care as she grew older. “The first step was just actually taking care of myself,” she shared. “My health, my skin, my body — I feel like by doing so, you’re showing yourself love, so it’s creating that foundation of love for yourself.”
