“Unaccredited” White Taxis to be Allowed in NAIA 2 and 3 Arrival Area

NAIA world's worst airport

It seems that the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has listened to the appeals of airline passengers because starting on April 20, unaccredited white taxis will be allowed to pick up passengers from the Arrival Area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 2 and 3.

However, the white metered taxis will only be allowed for certain time of the day, specifically during peak hours.

The schedule when the white metered taxis will be allowed are as follows:

  • Terminal 2 — 2PM to 6PM, 8PM to 10PM
  • Terminal 3 — 9AM to 11AM, 1PM to 4PM, 6PM to 8PM, and 10PM to 1AM

According to MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado, “While there are 1,677 airport-accredited taxis and vehicles for rent, traffic in the metro hampers such taxis from returning promptly to the airport.”

In 2014, a daily average 10,722 passengers arrived in Terminal 2 while 21,293 passengers in Terminal 3. Meanwhile, a daily average of 9,536 passengers arrived in Terminal 1 and 4,949 passengers in Terminal 4.

Honrado reminded the passengers to practice caution when riding unaccredited taxis. He mentioned that these taxis have been prohibited from entering the airports in the past due to the frequent complaints of overcharging and even holdup.

He emphasized the airport-accredited taxis are safer to use.
