4. Pescador Island
Pescador island is an island located in the Tañon Strait, a few kilometres from the western coast of the island of Cebu. It is governed by the municipality of Moalboal.
The island derives its name from the Philippines’ Spanish colonial heritage and the abundance of fish living on the surrounding coral reef, and the many fishermen that fish them (“pescador” translates from Spanish to “fisherman”). The rich marine life also attracts recreational divers from the many dive operations in nearby Panagsama.
On the way to Pescador island we saw dolphins!!! We were so happy to see these wild creatures and wished we had a decent photo!
The corals were rich and beautiful! I also liked the fact that the boatmen anchored on rocks to protect these beautiful creatures. We saw a lot of organisms: different fishes, blue starfishes and even jellyfishes without sting.
When In Manila Tip: There are ropes on the boat. The purpose of these ropes is for you to hang on to them while you’re swimming. Even if you’re a good swimmer, there is a strong current. It wasn’t obvious. Always be careful and grab on to the ropes.
3. Stay at Moalboal and eat Pizza
Moalboal is in the south of cebu relatively close to Badian (where canyoneering takes place). It’s famous for it’s beaches and beautiful underwater creatures. They have various corals (Pescador island), sardines and even turtles! A lot of tourists come here for diving. They have a lot of diving spots which are very close to the shore.
But what I was so surprised with is the culture that Moalboal had. It reminded me of a street in La Union where the same easy-going lifestyle took place. Nothing fancy but a lot to be proud of.
We were attracted to this pizza place called “The Pleasure Principle” when we heard that it was the “best pizza in town” dubbed by TripAdvisor. The food was great! Their pizzas were indeed good. I also loved the culture that this place had. It’s a place to meet a mix of foreign and local people. Also I loved the fact that the owner came up to us and asked us how we were doing. The staff can be trained more though, they don’t seem very friendly. But the food made up for that!
There’s also a restaurant called “Marina Cucina” they have a beautiful view of the ocean. They also have great pizza and pastas!
When In Manila Tip: Try the Pleasure Principle’s capricciosa pizza! Prepared with mozzarella cheese, Italian baked ham, mushroom, artichoke and tomato
2. Sumilon Island
We have reached the southern most part of Cebu. This beautiful island is located near the Oslob Whaleshark encounter. It’s a small island which is not that far away from shore. I didn’t like long drives, it makes me weezy. Since Oslob is 3-4 hours away from Cebu City, it wasn’t that bad.
Seeing Sumilon island wasn’t that bad. Alighting from the boat and digging my toes on the sand wasn’t that bad. Swimming in the crisp clear blue water wasn’t that bad.
This island took my breath away.
When In Manila Tip: The sun was scourging! Don’t forget your sunscreens, sun hats and sunglasses!
