It’s hard not to get excited with all the Marvel news coming out of the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. But here’s one that’s closer to home: Filipino artist Leinil Yu will be part of Marvel’s 80th anniversary issue, dubbed Marvel #1000.

Yu is a prolific comic book artist who has drawn on issues for the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Captain America, Superman, the New Avengers, Star Wars, and many more. One of his most recent covers is the Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey for Marvel.

According to ABS-CBN News, the 80th anniversary issue will feature the “origin story in Marvel Comics #1 that was first published on August 31, 1939, when the company was known as Timely Comics. The very first panel of Marvel Comics #1000 will reflect a panel from the original first issue and go on to reveal more mysteries of the Marvel Universe, featuring an enigmatic artifact known as the Eternity Mask.”

It will also include works from 80 creative teams, including heavyweights in the industry like Chris Claremont (Uncanny X-Men), Jason Aaron (The Mighty Thor), Peter David (The Incredible Hulk), Gerry Conway (The Amazing Spider-Man), and Joe Quesada (Daredevil).

The issue will be available starting August 28 at local retailers Comic Odyssey, Filbar’s, Comic Quest, and Planet X.
