The secret is out! Kai and Sehun are officially teaming up for EXO’s newest subunit.

SM Entertainment confirmed on November 2, 2026, that the two members will debut as a unit in December with their first mini-album.
The announcement came shortly after South Korean entertainment news outlet Newsen initially reported that the two idols were preparing to debut as a new EXO unit.

“Kai and Sehun will release their first mini-album this coming December as a new EXO unit. We ask for your continued interest and anticipation,” SM Entertainment told Ten Asia.
Born in 1994, Kai and Sehun are the same age and are affectionately known among fans as the “94z.” Although they share the same birth year, Sehun, born on April 12, 1994, is younger than Kai, who was born on January 14, 1994, making him EXO’s maknae.

News about EXO’s upcoming subunit first surfaced after SM Entertainment released its corporate business presentation and lineup preview, which hinted at forming a new unit toward the end of 2026.
While this will mark Kai’s first official subunit activity, Sehun previously teamed up with fellow EXO member Chanyeol to form EXO-SC in 2019. The duo went on to release popular tracks, including “What a Life,” “Just Us 2,” “1 Billion Views,” and “Telephone.”

Before their official debut as a duo, Kai and Sehun had already showcased their chemistry on several occasions outside EXO’s group activities. Sehun made a surprise guest appearance at Kai’s solo concert in 2025, where the two shared the stage for a special performance.
The pair reunited in January 2026 for Jeongwating, a special spin-off of the web variety show Jeongwaja, hosted by Kai. They are also set to appear together as travel partners in ENA and TEO’s upcoming variety program World Dice Tour 4.

Although SM Entertainment has yet to reveal the duo’s official unit name, album title, or specific release date, their first mini-album is confirmed for December 2026.
