McKinley High’s most fiercely ambitious vocal powerhouse may be stepping back into the spotlight. More than a decade after Glee concluded its six-season run in 2015, the beloved musical comedy-drama is officially making a comeback, with Disney+ and Hulu ordering a revival of the hit series.

Adding to the excitement, original star Lea Michele is reportedly set to reprise her breakout role as Rachel Berry.
According to Variety, multiple sources have confirmed Michele’s return to the Ryan Murphy-created series. The development marks a significant step toward reuniting the franchise with one of its most recognizable stars, although Disney has yet to formally announce the revival’s returning cast.

The casting news comes as fans await the next chapter of the musical phenomenon, which followed the members of the New Directions show choir at William McKinley High School.
The upcoming revival also reunites the show’s original creative team: Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan.
In September 2026, Murphy revealed that he had completed a script for the potential revival, which he co-wrote with Falchuk and Brennan. He also shared that he had been in contact with about 10 original cast members, who were enthusiastic about revisiting the series.

However, Murphy clarified that the actors had not yet read the script, and further discussions would help determine the project’s direction.
The revival’s development follows renewed interest in Glee among younger audiences who have discovered the series through streaming platforms.
Murphy has previously acknowledged the show’s enduring significance to a new generation of viewers, making its return an opportunity to revisit a franchise that left a lasting mark on pop culture.

Michele’s reported return is particularly noteworthy given her central role in the original series.
As Rachel Berry, the relentlessly ambitious performer with Broadway dreams, she became one of the show’s defining characters. Michele’s vocals and portrayal of Rachel earned her critical recognition, including Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
Beyond its characters and musical performances, Glee also became a commercial success through its extensive catalog of cover songs and original music, producing numerous charting releases throughout its run.

Meanwhile, Michele’s potential comeback has fueled speculation about which other familiar faces might return to the choir room.
Former co-stars Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet have shared social media posts hinting at their possible involvement in the revival.
Morris, who played Brittany S. Pierce, posted a message suggesting that her character would be back, while Overstreet, who portrayed Sam Evans, shared a reunion-themed message following the revival announcement.

Neither development should be mistaken for a complete official cast announcement, as details about returning performers remain limited.
For now, Disney+ and Hulu have not disclosed the revival’s plot, episode count, production schedule, or premiere date. The extent of the original cast’s involvement also remains unclear.
