THE LEADER’S LEVERAGE : Being a COACH and building a TEAM!

When in Manila, have you tried attending a learning event on leadership and coaching? So, one faithful day I rushed into the Crowne Plaza Manila to attend the THE LEADER’S LEVERAGE: Coaching for Performance and Managing High-performing Team.

The learning event was made possible by different event partners and sponsors, and spearheaded by Convergent Consulting. According to their page, Convergent Consulting is a leading and trusted partner of Multinational Corporations, Philippines’ Most Admired Organizations, Family Businesses, Government Institutions, and NGO’s in Leadership and Team Development. For over ten years, Convergent has been in the forefront of people development particularly in the areas of Management and Supervisory Training, Teambuilding, Creativity and Innovation, and Customer Service.

The participants of the learning event were mostly ‘executives, managers, team leaders, human resources and training professionals, government officials, business owners, and academicians to power up their leadership skills and achieve greater business results’. The “Leader’s Leverage” focuses on Coaching for Performance and Managing High-Performing Teams and was facilitated by Vanessa Mary “Buneeh” Pagdanganan and AldemWalburSalvana.“Buneeh” as she was fondly called is a CEO and Senior Consultant while Aldem is a Meta Coach and Senior Consultant.

Aldem on the morning session talks about what being a coach is and  even demonstrated a simple coaching clinic. Buneeh continues on the sessions on managing high-performance team with a discussion on types and stages of team-building.

The afternoon session was graced by Dr. Bernardo Villegas, Member, Board of Trustees, and University Professor of the University of Asia and the Pacific. He introduces himself as an economist.Dr.Villegas presented his thoughts and observations on how the Philippines is seen as a force in ASEAN Economic community supported by his ‘research, insights and recommendations on the ASEAN Economy and its impact on Leaders and Managers’. He continually re-tells the story of the previous administrations of Cory, Ramos, Erap, GMA and how we should thank them by laying the ground work on our present economic growth. Mr Villegas is quoted saying that ‘we have reached the tipping point, finally after 25 years we have a critical mass for a very promising economic growth’. The business sectors that we should watch out for the following years are banking, BPO, retail and many others, according to him. Dr. Villegas has also some fearless forecast on the upcoming elections and who’s to win the presidential election

The games or ‘innogizers’ were so practical and insightful. Its a great way of having fun, knowing other people while learning. Big high-five to the organizers and event partners. Its also great to meet new friends like Katherin Yap (Make It Happen), Jo-ed Tome (Abrea Consulting), David Bayarong (Lighthouse Marina Resort at Subic) and many others. Didn’t I say we won some ‘innogizer’ prizes too, and the food was great.

When in Manila, build your team and be a coach. Learning performance coaching and managing high-performance teams could be this fun, I tell you. It’s just time to apply all you’ve learned and do the hard work. Bring it on!
