The Hungry Hound + Niner Ichi Nana = an Awesome Night Out in Manila

Niner Ichi Nana is Hungry Hound’s neighboring bar that has been famous for its elaborate cocktail concoctions served in the most kitschy and creative manner, and has landed on everyone’s hang-out list as it has been initially frequented by Manila’s most popular crowds. But more than its stellar clientele, Niner’s eccentric aesthetic, low-key façade and one-of-a-kind alcohol mixes have really put them on the radar.

Totes love Niner’s menu book that reminds me of a vintage typeface book.

Fully stocked with all the goods, and then some.

Never have we encountered the most creative use of liquor, egg whites, spices, fruits, vegetables and… condiments (?) to craft a uniquely decadent selection of cocktails until Niner had us acquainted with such. Our interest has since been piqued, and our standards for quality cocktails and mixes set dizzyingly high.

Customized cocktails! Niner’s Bespoke cocktails gives picking your poison a whole new meaning.

And if that wasn’t impressive enough for you, Niner delves further into mixology with their Bespoke cocktails. These are cocktail mixes put together on the spot, custom-made especially for you as inspired by your current mood and preference. They basically have you fill out a tick-list with the most random questions regarding your tastes and likes (with options like “Sunrise or Sunset?,” and “Sweet or Spicy?”) and fashion an off-the-menu cocktail derived from your answers; loads of fun to try, and a great way to challenge the skills of Niner’s bartending crew, as headed by the ultra-talended Eduardo Yonzon, Filipino participant in this year’s Diageo World Class Bartending competition.

For particular Friday nights when you feel like taking your usual night out a notch higher, these next-door neighbors are a match made in gustatory heaven.  We totally recommend starting your night on a chill note with Hungry Hound’s English pub fare, and when you’re ready, make that steady transition to Niner’s dimly-lit set up and ready your palates (and livers) for some heady mixes. No other way we’d do it on a Friday, when in Manila.
