Get ready for more cerulean – “The Devil Wears Prada” sequel is coming!
Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt in the 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada” (L) and the SAG Awards 2024 (R).
The hit 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada” is finally getting a sequel! Disney is moving forward with a sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada,” bringing back the original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. Oscar-winning producer Wendy Finerman, who played a key role in the first film, will also be returning to develop the project. Director David Frankel, who helmed the original film, is also eyeing a return. Since “The Devil Wears Prada,” Frankel has directed movies like “Marley & Me” and “Collateral Beauty,” and television episodes for shows like “The Morning Show,” “Inventing Anna,” and “Manifest.”
Originally, The Devil Wears Prada cast members were led by Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine; with her assistants, Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs and Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton.
The upcoming sequel reportedly focuses on Miranda Priestly struggling to keep her magazine afloat amidst the decline of print media. She’ll also face off against a former adversary – Emily has become a powerful executive in the luxury goods industry, controlling advertising budgets Miranda could certainly use.
While reports suggest Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are returning for the sequel, it remains unclear if Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as Andy Sachs. This uncertainty likely stems from Andy’s career path at the end of the original film.
The three stars recently had a reunion onstage at the SAG Awards back in February, where they even playfully referenced some of the movie’s most well-known lines.
