Aaron Rowe, Boega, Lukas Graham, and Finneas, who were once scheduled to support Ed Sheeran’s ongoing “The Loop” tour, have all pulled out after Macklemore’s removal from the lineup.

US rapper Macklemore, best known for his chart-topping hits like “Can’t Hold Us” and “Thrift Shop,” made onstage statements in support of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. In a brief speech onstage at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, he called for a “Free Palestine” and told attendees that the people “have not forgotten” what happened.
After this onstage speech, several venues have allegedly told a promoter that he can no longer support Ed’s stadium tour.

“In the middle of all the media attention surrounding Pink and what I said at MetLife, Ed told me that Robert Kraft [owner of Gillette Stadium] called him… Ed told me that Kraft said I would not be allowed to perform in his stadium,” he said in a statement, adding that the Kraft Group allegedly rallied other stadium owners, claiming that Macklemore’s continued presence on the tour would be a reason for the tour not to be played at other venues
The Grammy-award-winning artist was supposed to appear at eight of the 10 shows left on the US leg of Ed’s tour. Despite the loss of opportunity, he acknowledged that taking a side can “cost” something from him.
The rapper, who is an outspoken supporter of the Palestinian movement, stressed that his removal from the tour was an act to “silence” him.
“At a certain level of exposure, ‘Free Palestine’ becomes too much of a risk. If I kept doing the shows, saying ‘Free Palestine,’ with Ed implicitly supporting it, the crowd getting loud and showing undeniable support for Palestinian liberation, what artist might speak out next? The stage becomes resistance,” he shared.
He added: “Who gets to play the stadium and who doesn’t, all of it becomes so small when held against what we are witnessing in Gaza and the West Bank. An entire people being displaced, starved, and killed, while the world debates which words we are allowed to use to describe it,” he added.
Despite his removal from the US tour, he hoped that this wouldn’t be the “end” of his relationship with the Irish singer.
Moreover, he affirmed that only being in two out of the ten shows were enough if it meant sparking meaningful dialogue about what’s happening in Palestine.
“I didn’t need 10 shows from Ed. I needed 2. Two chances to stand in front of 90,000 people and say the words that somehow became too dangerous to say: Free Palestine,” he wrote towards the end of his statement. “But if those words cost me the stage, while turning the conversation back to Palestine, then it was the most successful tour I’ve ever been on.”
What happened after Macklemore’s removal
Soon after, Aaron Rowe, Beoga, Lukas Graham, and Finneas decided to withdraw from Ed’s tour.
Aaron was the first of the remaining support acts to pull out from the tour to express support for Macklemore.

“I don’t take the decision lightly. Ed has been a friend to me and has changed my life, I could never thank him enough for this,” the Irish singer-songwriter said in an Instagram statement. “I need to be true to myself and my ancestors who resisted colonization.”
In a similar statement, Lukas asserted that withdrawing from the tour is a decision he had to “stand by.”

Beoga has also departed from the tour despite being Ed’s band to support Macklemore.
“We were there for Macklemore’s performance and speech. We fully supported his message, so did most of the audience in MetLife Stadium, which terrifies the lobbies,” the band wrote in a statement.

Finally, Finneas, also known as Billie Eilish’s brother, was set to tour with the Irish singer in South America later this year.
“Artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed,” Finneas emphasized in a brief statement. “I stand with Palestine and its people.”
Ed Sheeran’s statement on Macklemore’s removal from his US tour
In a lengthy statement, Ed Sheeran shared his side of the story.
The 35-year-old singer confirmed he was involved in direct talks with Robert Kraft, along with activists on both sides to find a “mutual resolution.” However, both the venue and promoter’s decision were final.

“I was informed that his stance was based on how Macklemore conveyed part of his message during his performance, rather than on everything that was said,” he said
The “Thinking Out Loud” singer clarified the reason why he does not use his professional platform for political issues, stating that there are “multiple approaches” to use one’s platform to promote peach for all.
“Those who come to my shows do not expect a political forum,” he said, reffering to young people and children of all backgrounds. “I respect Macklemore’s strength of purpose to stand up and shout for what he believes… I choose to use my fame and platform to be a place of safety and sanctuary.”
“I have spent this week trying to build bridges, to find solution, and unfortunately, was unable to do so. I know who I am, both as a person and as an artist, and those who know my heart knows my values too,” he concluded.
