‘The Buzz’ to Go on Hiatus After 16 Years of Being on Air

'The Buzz' to Go on Hiatus After 16 Years

As they say, all good things come to an end, and after 16 years of reporting the latest in showbiz happenings, ABS-CBN’s The Buzz is going on a break after 16 years of being on the air.

The news was confirmed by host Boy Abunda, who said:

“The world has changed and ang pamamaraan ng news reporting, and that includes showbiz news reporting, ay nabago na rin po. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit pansamantala kami ay mawawala sa ere. We want to take a few steps backward para makita namin ng mas malinaw kung sino kami, nasaan kami, kung sino kayo at kung nasaan na po kayo. Para sa aming pagbabalik ay isang malaking pagbabago ang inyong aabangan,” Boy said.

(The world has changed and so the methods of news reporting, and that includes showbiz news reporting. This is the reason why we will be off the air temporarily. We want to take a few steps backward for us to see clearly who we are, where we are, who you the viewers are, and where you are. So that when we return, there is something new you can look forward to.)

The network has released a statement, saying that it will go on a break to reinvent the show. According to the official statement, the network realizes that showbiz news reporting is evolving, and that The Buzz should reinvent to fit the changing times.

Since it started airing in 1999, the show has undergone several changes, including hosting duties. The show’s first host was Boy, and he was later joined by Kris Aquino, Toni Gonzaga, Ruffa Gutierrez, Janice de Belen, Carmina Villaroel, and Charlene Gonzalez.

On the show’s return, Tito Boy says:

We will come back individually or as a group—hindi ko po alam. (I don’t know) But the showbiz news talk show genre is not going to die. It’s going to continue. Yun po ang dahilan kung bakit napagkaisahan naming lahat (That is the reason why we all decided) that the best way is to stop today. And then come back strong and be the best of what we can be.
