Filipino netter Treat Huey won his seventh doubles crown yesterday after he and partner, former World No. 1 Max Mirnyi, won two sets — 7-6(5), 6-3 โ in the finals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco, Mexico.
The duo was against third seeded Alexander Peya (Austria) and Philipp Petzschner (Germany) in the final match, where the Filipino-Belarusian duo took them down in one hour and 26 minutes and saving seven of eight break points.
Mirnyi earned his 49th doubles title, while Huey is now victorious in four straight ATP World Tour finals, with three different partners.
“I told Treat that even though we’ve only been together for two months, we’ve been through a lotโฆ We’ve improved on our teamwork and things we need to do. Luckily today, in a big tournament like Acapulco, everything clicked. We played well at the same time which was important.โ Mirnyi said in an ATP report.
The duo will be taking home 500 Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings points and splitting $94,800 in prize money.
