On September 28, 2019, Purple Box Events, in partnership with RDM Racing Hub, will be hosting one of the biggest Mini 4WD Race Tournament in one of the prime locations in Quezon City- Eton Centris.

Jonathan Cruz, Project Head of the East Time! Mini 4WD Race Tournament said that countless of teams from neighboring cities like Quezon City, Marikina City, and nearby provinces such as Rizal, Bulacan, and Batangas have pledged to participate, there are those who are traveling all the way from Baguio and Ilocos and some are even flying in from Mindoro and Nueva Viscaya.

“We want this to be very enjoyable and worthwhile for these Tamiya hobbyists.  We want them to feel our, [the organizers] support by providing them an outlet to showcase their cars. There are a lot of different Tamiya race organizers, [organizers of] big or small races, all of us share the same goal which is to make the Tamiya community grow and make this wholesome hobby more fun and exciting than it already is.” Cruz said.

Founded by Yoshio Tamiya in Japan in 1946, Tamiya is a famous brand of plastic race car kits, tools, and supplies. It became a big trend in the 90s and interest to the game continues up until today, forming a huge number of serious hobbyists not only in the Philippines but around the world.

East Time! Mini 4WD Race Tournament is also an opportunity to showcase the mechanical and artistic skills of the Filipinos as they themselves set up, assemble and even design their own Tamiya race cars. It is also to show pride and support to the Cebuanos who are now accredited manufacturers of these battery controlled cars, and related tools.

Tamiya fans in East Luzon used to come together at the RDM Racing Hub located at an exclusive village in Cainta, Rizal till the crowd becomes too big to be accommodated at a small venue thus the organization of the Tamiya Tournaments.

Cruz said, “Tamiya has become one of the top social activity men ages 18-35 find themselves into. They find enjoyment being with people whom they share similar interests with. They all play the same toy, work on the same tools but are also able to put their own personality through the designs and artistry of their cars. I guess this explains the popularity of Tamiya to these enthusiasts.” Cruz revealed plans of their organization to host more Tamiya Race Tournaments in other parts of the country and influence more people to the game.

“Together, my older brother Jeffrey and I dream to take this Tamiya Race Tournaments nationwide. We want not just men but also women, not just adults but also children, basically, everyone to experience this phenomenon. The presence of mobile games are very prevalent and Tamiya could potentially be the activity that can beat that. It’s as fun, as challenging but very educational. As Tamiya continues to introduce new products and technology, it will surely get everyone more interested in the craft.” he said.
