Mad Mark’s is ice cream heaven. The Half-Baked Madascar sells out so fast, we didn’t even get the chance to try it when we visited in the afternoon! We settled for scoops of Javan Hot Chocolate and Matchawaited instead, both of which did not disappoint.

Mad Mark’s churns their dense, fresh ice cream on a daily basis. They have a local supplier (I believe in Laguna) for their milk and cream, while they source other ingredients from different parts of the globe – the vanilla beans from Madagascar, the chocolate from Java, and the coffee from Sumatra. According to their staff, even with an intended shelf life of a week, all of Mad Mark’s ice cream gets consumed just a day or two after production.

BUT, Mad Mark’s also offers some seriously worthy eats like their signature steak and the Johnny Double Black rib feast. I loved how Mad Mark’s grilled their steak closer to the raw side. I’m a medium rare-to-medium steak lover; my problem with overdone steaks is the perennial dilemma of whether to spit or swallow the tough portions. I didn’t have that problem with Mad Mark’s steak. Then came the Johnny ribs: tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs marinated in rich, lovely sauce.

So if you’ve only ever tried the ice cream at Mad Mark’s, it’s high time to try their main entrees, as well. And if you’ve never been to Mad Mark’s before, eat there for lunch or dinner, and don’t forget the dessert!

GASTRO PARK

BABOY!

That’s what I remember most from our first visit to Gastro Park in Kapitolyo. Of all the stalls there, I remember the helmet-wearing pig Bagneto because of their crunchy bagnet rice and equally deadly bagnet sisig. I remember the inconspicuous Brick Plate stall at the far left corner of the food hub with their divine shaker ribs and tasty pulled pork pizza.

With newer food hubs being opened in Kapitolyo, Gastro Park remains a favorite because of the wide selection of flavors from traditional Singaporean food fare at Wok to the eclectic Mexican bulalo available at Tolyo’s. They also serve one of the best milkshakes at Sweet Nothing.
