Spinnr Hitlist Awards 2014: Recognizing Chart Toppers From the Year That Was
It all started with a vision: in the age where smart phones and the internet reign supreme, there was a need to elevate the way we listen to music.
And just a year later, Spinnr became the Philippines’ first unlimited music streaming service that gives you access to your favorite artists, any time, anywhere. It became a marketplace for the creators of music, and won over the hearts of music lovers nationwide, as it brought them closer to a whole new pool of talented musicians with just a click of a button.
To celebrate this milestone as the country’s first digital music service, and for shaking up the music scene (in a good way), Spinnr went all out a la VMAs-style. On December 17, they launched their first-ever Spinnr Hitlist Awards, held at Valkyrie at The Palace, Bonifacio Global City, to recognize some of the music industry’s hottest acts.
Who were the winners of the first Spinnr Hitlist Awards? Find out below.
Spinnr Hitlist Awards 2014
Spinnr Album of the Year
The PHILPOP 2014 Album
Big Hero 6 OST
Winner: Big Hero 6 OST
This category saw some of the most-loved soundtrack albums, such as the Frozen OST, The PHILPOP 2014 Album, and Taylor Swift’s Red and 1989. However, they were no match to the upbeat melodies of Disney hit film Big Hero 6, though, which captured the hearts of its audiences worldwide.
Song of the Year
Problem – Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea
Steal My Girl – One Direction
All Of Me – John Legend
Rude – Magic!
Winner: All Of Me – John Legend
It was pop wonder against pop wonder in this category, but it was no contest: John Legend’s romantic soul ballad was the clear winner.

Best Indie Artist
Julie Ann San Jose
Mad Hatter Day
Veronica and I
Winner: Julie Ann San Jose
It’s nice to see Spinnr recognizing the efforts of local independent artists. As a platform that allows unsigned acts to shine, this will hopefully lead to more talented musicians being discovered.
Best OPM Artist
Maja Salvador – Dahan Dahan
Karylle – Kiss You
Darren Espanto – Domino
Nikki Gil – Babalikan Mo Rin Ako
Myk Perez – Runaway
Kyla – Salbabida
Winner: Nikki Gil – Babalikan Mo Rin Ako
Going head to head with other talented local artists, Nikki Gil and her PhilPop hit “Babalikan Mo Rin Ako” emerged victorious.
Artist of the Year
Winner: Taylor Swift
With her monster hit album 1989 hitting more than a million sales in a week, and her loyal Pinoy Swifties loving her more than ever, it’s no wonder she won Spinnr Hitlist Awards’ first Artist of the Year. Congrats, TSwift!

Spinnr also recognized the devoted users who have contributed to their success, with the Loyalty Award (Gia Basa) and the Top Downloader Award (Jennifer Anne David). To spice things up a bit, fashion blogger Verniece Enciso also walked away as Best Dressed of the night!
Artists such as newcomer Moira dela Torre and Nicole Asencio blew the guests away with their performances, adding more panache to this glitzy affair.
2014 has been a successful first year for Spinnr, and a good year for music, so it seemed only fitting to end this year with a bang. We can only wait and see for more exciting artists and music to emerge next year.
