Husay Talents and Vibe Dance Studio present a one-act comedy play titled “Si Chester at ang UV Ride Pa-Ayala” at Fringe Manila 2017. The play will be staged in The PARC Foundation on February 24, 2017, at 8PM.
“Si Chester at Ang UV Ride Pa-Ayala” is written by Berna Sastrillo and directed by Aren Adao. It is a comedy play about the everyday struggle of working Filipinos to remain hopeful that someday, they will reach their dreams.
Set in a UV Express van stuck in a traffic jam in C5, the play starts with Chester preparing for his dream job interview. As the vehicle came to a halt, Chester began to feel anxious for he was going to be late for his appointment. He had no choice but to endure hours of sitting in a cramped van with four other strangers. In this unfortunate yet funny journey, Chester and his fellow passengers found comfort in each other’s ‘traffic’ stories of trying to fulfill their dreams.
Casts include Harlequin Theatre Guild alumnus and UP Rep guest actor, Jose Mari Carpena, Astrosininglaya Theater Company member Denise Nayve, Teatro Tomasino alumna Cheska Marfori, and indie actors Vic Dela Cruz and Jett Embana. The play’s sound design is created by Syke Dolero, light design by Theo Dacanay, and stage management will be handled by Oshin Villar.
Play With a Cause
Proceeds from the show will help Husay Talents and Vibe Dance Studio boost their programs for their target beneficiaries, which are mostly composed of out-of-school youth, juvenile delinquents, and homeless youth.
“Follow your passion. Do not end up at your death bed saying I made money in this job but I never did the things I’m supposed to do,” Melvin Ang, studio owner and director of Vibe Dance Studio.
“We were brainstorming on a production that would serve as a platform that carry out both of our visions, at the same time building a sustainable business model around them. One of these was joining the FringeMNL 2017 to provide us the avenue for inspiration and to showcase our prototype theater play. We want to explore this genre because it allows us to be creative holistically — from producing the material, performing onstage, assisting backstage, marketing and other points of collaboration, while bringing along our beneficiaries in the process,” Leah del Rosario-Rasay, founder of Husay Talents
They are also crowdfunding this production through The Spark Project with rewards ranging from show tickets, customized illustrations from Gracey Reyes, and witty statement shirts from Linya-Linya.
