Veteran actress-singer Sharon Cuneta has just been cast to star in an upcoming film adaptation of the award-winning novel “The Mango Bride”!
In a report published by Variety, “The Mango Bride” will be produced by Singapore and London-based 108 Media and begin filming in late 2022 with Filipino-Canadian filmmaker Martin Edralin helming it as the director. Rae Red, known for writing acclaimed film “Babae At Baril,” will be penning the screenplay.
Apart from being its lead star, Sharon will also be the adaptation’s executive producer alongside executives from 108 Media as well as from Los Angeles-based talent management and production company Bold MP.
“The Mango Bride” follows two Filipina women of different backgrounds—one a wealthy socialite and one a mail-order bride—traveling to Oakland, California in the hope of a better life. A chance encounter between the two causes their lives to intertwine and leads them both down a path of terrible choices and hidden life-changing secrets.
“I wanted to do ‘The Mango Bride’ because it’s the best way to connect to a global audience by putting some of the best Filipino talents and stories together to tell an emotional and uplifting story like this,” Variety quoted Sharon.
In a separate Instagram post announcing the project, Sharon expressed hope that this would help open even more opportunities for other Filipinos to set their foot in the industry.
“Hollywood, here come the PINOYS!!! Please pray for this project to succeed. My prayer is that it is able to open doors for ALL OF US in the industry – FINALLY!” she said.
