I can’t help but feel giddy about the news that one of the best isekai around is finally getting its second season released. According to Crunchyroll, ‘Re: Zero–Starting Life in Another World’ will premiere the first half of the second season on July 8, 2020. The second half of the second season will then follow on January 2021.
This is good news for fans of the anime which was slated to have a spring release until the COVID-19 pandemic caused the delay of the second season. Your patience is now being rewarded. This has been a long wait since the first season was released way back in 2016, and fans had to settle for the movie released earlier this year for international audiences.
This anime tells the tale of Subaru Natsuki, who is transported to another world. There, he meets Emilia, a silver-haired half-elf girl whose past is shrouded in mystery. Subaru’s destiny in this new world is entwined with that of Emilia. Unfortunately for Subaru, this leads to his death. However, every time Subaru dies, he is brought back to life at a point before his death.
With this new life, Subaru learns from the mistakes of his previous death in order to avoid it, and makes better decisions with the new lease on life… until he commits another mistake that leads to his death and he is revived again, that is. Subaru alone retains the memory of his death and previous life, and he uses this to make things right the next time around. How and why he keeps on reviving remains a mystery so far.
Though bloody and a bit gory, ‘Re: Zero’ is a beautiful anime based on the light novel of the same name and is made by White Fox Studios, also known for its work on another beautiful anime, ‘Stein’s;Gate’. Aside from Subaru and Emilia, we get to meet characters like Puck and the demon maid twins Rem and Ram. The series is filled with so many other entertaining characters that you simply have to discover for yourselves.
‘Re: Zero–Starting Life in Another World’ is very entertaining, and I can’t help but hype this anime with its overall theme. It’s a series about second chances, and wouldn’t we all want a second chance to make things right? Subaru shows that given a second chance in life – many times, for that matte – he will not commit the same mistake twice, and he will make better decisions. That alone is enough to give this anime a chance.
Well, for those who have been waiting like me, the second season is just around the corner. Time to catch up or review what has happened so far!
