Rochelle Pangilinan recently returned to where it all began, the stage of the long-running noontime show “Eat Bulaga!”, and she took to her social media to reflect on her journey since debuting as part of the iconic SexBomb Girls and what it meant to come back to her roots.
“Twenty-eight years ago, ako unang tumuntong sa stage ng Eat Bulaga. Trese anyos pa lang ako nun pero naalalala ko pa yun hanggang ngayon [Twenty-eight years ago, I stood on the stage of Eat Bulaga for the first time. I was only 13 years old at the time but I still remember that moment until now],” she began.
“Nung lumipat ang TVJ at ang original Eat Bulaga hosts sa TV5, tulad ninyo, naapektuhan din ako at nasaktan [When TVJ and the original Eat Bulaga hosts transferred to TV5, I was affected and hurt just like everyone else],” she continued, referring to the ongoing legal dispute between TVJ and the Eat Bulaga producers TAPE Inc. She then said that as a form of respect to the original hosts, she allowed a considerable amount of time to pass before agreeing to guest on the new iteration of the noontime show on GMA Network and that she also sought their permission to do so.
“Bilang pagtanaw ng respeto sa Eat Bulaga, TVJ at original Dabarkads, pitong buwan ang pinalipas ko bago pa man ako nangahas makapasok man lang sa bagong Eat Bulaga [To give respect to Eat Bulaga, TVJ, and the original Dabarkads, I let 7 months pass before I agreed to guest on the new Eat Bulaga],” she said.
“Nagpasintabi po ako sa original Eat Bulaga hosts and management bago ako umabot sa puntong ito. Magpapasalamat na rin ako sa mga aksamayan ko dati at naunawaan nyo ang pag guest ko ngayon. [I informed the original Eat Bulaga hosts and management before I got to this point. I want to say thank you too to those I had worked with before that you understood why I decided to guest on the show now.]”
She then expressed how she is apprehensive over how fans would react to her decision but she trusts that people will understand that it’s purely because of her desire to share her talents.
“Sa araw na ito, aapak ako uli sa entablado ng Eat Bulaga. Iba na ang mga karakter sa paligid pero ang excitement at saya na nararamdaman ko ay tulad pa rin ng dati – sabik ako laging mag-perform nun sa Eat Bulaga kasama ang TVJ at ang dabarkads, sabik pa rin akong sumayaw sa bagong Eat Bulaga kasama kayo. […] May takot. May pag-aalinlangan. Pero kumakapit ako sa paniniwalang dahil gusto ko lang i-share ang talento kong ibinigay niya, ako ay tatanggapin ninyo [On this day, I will step on the stage of Eat Bulaga once again. The people around me may be different but the excitement and joy I feel is the same as before. I had always been happy to perform at Eat Bulaga alongside TVJ and the Dabarkads before, and I am still happy to dance at the new Eat Bulaga with all of you … There is fear. There is doubt. But I hold firm to the belief that because I want to share my God-given talents, you will accept me.]” she wrote.
“Maraming salamat sa inyong bukas na pag-iisip [Thank you so much for your open-mindedness.]”
Rochelle was one of the founding members of SexBomb Girls and was the lead actress of the top-rated afternoon drama series on GMA Network “Daisy Siete” which ran from 2003 to 2010 for a total of 26 seasons. She also starred in multiple shows and movies throughout her career.
TVJ and the original Dabarkads currently host a new noontime show on TV5 titled “E.A.T.”
