4. Akazukin Chacha (Japan; 1999)

Chacha is a clumsy young apprentice of Seravy, the world’s greatest magician, who lives in the Mochi-mochi mountain. Living on the same mountain is Riiya, a boy gifted with enormous strength and comes from a family of werewolves. Far away from Mochi-mochi Mountain is Urizuri Mountain where Dorothy, a well known magician, lives in a castle with her student, Shiine. Shiine is a young wizard, who is adept at casting spells and barriers, as well as transformations. Riiya and Shiine fight for the attention of Chacha while going on many tasks for Seravy and Dorothy.

3. Blue Blink (Japan; Aoi Burinku; 1999)

Kakeru saves Blink, a mystical pony, from a thunder shower and in gratitude, Blink tells him that if he is ever in trouble, all Kakeru needs to do is call out his name three times and he will appear. At the end of the summer when Kakeru returns home, he finds his father kidnapped. Kakeru, weeping, calls out Blink’s name and, as promised, Blink immediately appears, and the two set out on the trail of Kakeru’s father.

Who doesn’t remember the Tagalog theme song of Remi? You know “Aking ina, mahal kong ina…”? Remi, who finds out that she is an abandoned child, is helped by Vitalis – a strolling entertainer – who discovers her talent for singing and takes her in with his troupe. Remi starts her journey with Vitalis and his troupe of animals: the monkey Joli-Cœur and the dogs Capi, Dolce, and Zelbino. She looks for her real family as she goes on adventures with Vitalis and his troupe.

1. Samurai X (Japan; Rurōni Kenshin Meiji Kenkaku Romantan; 1999)

Notorious as the assassin Batusai, Kenshin Himura travels around Japan’s countryside, offering protection and his service to those in need as a way to atone for the murders he committed. He then meets a woman named Kaoru, who was in the middle of a fight with a murderer – who claims to be Batusai. Kenshin decides to help her and defeats the fake Batusai and their lives became tangled from there.
