The Philippines National Football Team has achieved its highest ever ranking in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings which were published this week.
Argentina may have snatched the top spot on the list from Germany, but the really exciting news can be found further down the rankings. A total of twenty eight teams have managed to move up more than ten places on the latest edition of the list, and the Philippines is one of them, having moved up 13 steps to now occupy 124th place in the world rankings.
That may not look very impressive to the uninitiated, but it is actually the team’s best ever ranking and a great achievement by everyone involved. It clearly displays that the upwards trend of the squad under new coach Thomas Dooley is continuing, with the team having defeated Bahrain in their first match of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying and also winning their first-ever World Cup qualifier away from home, a 2-0 victory over Yemen in Doha, Qatar, recently. Let’s hope things continue to improve and who knows: maybe soon we will see the flag of the Philippines fly over a world cup stadium!
