Another Filipino landmark gains global recognition!
Vigan has been formally declared as one of the new 7 Wonder Cities Of The World, making the Philippines one of only three countries in the world with more than one wonder, according to a report by the Philippine Star.
The status was made official during the grand inauguration, where the New7Wonders Foundation president Bernard Webber handed a bronze plaque to Vigan mayor Eva Grace Singson-Medina to signify the heritage city’s installment as one of the new wonder cities.
According to the New7Wonders Foundatin, Vigan is considered as the “best-preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia.”
Webber also said that he was impressed by with the motivation and participation of every Filipino around the world to vote, which made Vigan’s inclusion in the list possible.
For the full list of 7 Wonder Cities, Vigan joins the likes of Havana in Cuba, Beirut in Lebanon, La Paz in Bolivia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Doha in Qatar and Durban in South Africa.
