Korean Thriller “Pandora: Beneath the Paradise” Filled With Intrigue, Suspense, and Shocking Mystery

When a wealthy woman with a perfect life, a successful husband, and a sweet daughter suddenly recovers her lost memories from her childhood, things are no longer the same as she must do everything she can to protect those who love while also facing the consequences of her past actions.

This is the premise of the new Korean thriller “Pandora: Beneath the Paradise” that is now on Disney+. Created by the famed Kim Sunok behind the hit series “The Penthouse: War in Life” and “Return” and directed by Choi Younghoon (“One the Woman”, “Good Casting”), “Pandora: Beneath the Paradise” follows the story of Hong Taera (E Jiah) who, after getting into an accident, starts recalling strange memories she has yet to understand is hers.

However, as days go on, she starts to uncover more about what happened to her until an unexpected visit to a place she never would have thought she’d return to allows her to completely remember who she truly was. She realizes soon after that she is nothing more than a puppet in an elaborate game. But try as she might to escape this part of her life, the demons of her past begin to come back and haunt her, putting her family and friends in danger in the process. Now, she’s driven to cast aside the elegant persona she’s had for the past 15 years to get revenge on whoever did this to her.

The story is so gripping and the more that the mystery is unraveled, the more there is that we don’t know—and it puts us at the edge of our seat every time each episode ends. There are only two out at the moment but already there’s so much going on, although we’ve yet to actually see what Hong Taera is capable of when she isn’t afraid to tap into her deadly skills with the mad intent to pursue the truth and save her family. Based on what we’ve been given a taste of so far, though, we just know that there will be tons more satisfying action scenes in the near future.

Hong Taera isn’t the only character to watch out for in the series, however. Her husband Pyo Jaehyun (played by Lee Sangyun), the chairman of prominent tech company Hatch which had just made a breakthrough with a certain invention, has problems of his own when something terrible happens at his company that he feels only he can resolve.

There is also Taera’s best friend, Ko Haesoo (played by Jang Heejin), who is YBC’s top anchor with a tragic past that is also coming back to haunt her. It’s Haesoo’s determination to discover the answers to questions that have long been in her head that becomes a problem to Taera, and we’re curious as to just how Taera will have to deal with it without revealing her true identity.

All in all, from what we’ve seen in the first two episodes, “Pandora: Beneath the Paradise” is a show that will leave you wanting to know more and we just can’t wait to see where it all leads. Whether or not you’re into Korean Drama, “Pandora: Beneath the Paradise” will hit you with so much thrill and suspense that’ll keep you entertained during your weekend binge-watching.

“Pandora: Beneath the Paradise” releases new episodes on Disney+ every Saturday and Sunday.
