On March 26, PAGASA stated that the northeast monsoon, locally known as Amihan, had ended.
“The Northeast Monsoon, locally known as Amihan, has officially ended over most parts of the country, marking the start of the dry season. Warmer days ahead, but occasional thunderstorms may still occur,” it wrote in a Facebook post.
In early March, classes across the National Capital Region (NCR) were suspended due to an extreme heat index forecast. According to PAGASA, the heat index reached 46°C, placing it within the “danger” range of 42 to 51°C.
“The public is advised to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress and optimize the daily use of water for personal and domestic consumption,” it added.
The weather bureau also shared an educational infographic detailing the symptoms, effects, and precautionary measures for prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
Stay safe and hydrated, everyone!
