Ondoy Tribute / Blog Action Day for Climate Change

We created this little tribute for the victims of the recent Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana). We wanted to highlight the positive outputs, help and unity that the Philippines is now experiencing.

Though at the same time, we would also like to take this chance to express some concerns that tie into Blog Action Day.

Blog action day is an annual event where bloggers from all around the world unite to express concern and raise awareness on one topic. With the millions of blogs writing about one united cause, we are able to tell billions more about important issues concerning our planet and our lives.

This year, 2009, the topic for blog action day is “Climate Change.”

The reason we tied in the recent storm from the Philippines, into blog action day is because climate change has a lot to do with recent event.

As much as some government officials like to call this a “rare” occurrence or a “once in a lifetime” storm… it’s really not. We, and our children, and our children’s children, will be experiencing many more events such as this, if we don’t do something about it now!

Raising awareness and pushing those in positions of power to make a stand is one thing you can do. Another… is to simply be aware and take care of our mother earth. Little things I noticed, even after the floods of Ketsana (Ondoy), like people still throwing trash out their car windows, or throwing cigarette butts wherever they please, show a lack of intelligence, humanity or connectivity with the rest of the world. Much of the flooding may have been prevented, had our sewage systems and streets not been filled with garbage! So for the sake of this world! If you want to f-ing smoke… throw your damn cigarette butts in the trash where it belongs!

Sorry… that’s one of the things that really annoys me. How some people do not take responsibility or ownership of this planet. We seem to think that someone else will sweep up our garbage, that someone else will clean up our trash, that someone else will save our planet. Why can’t you be that someone else?

Ondoy / Ketsana Tribute

We were hit by disaster
Our nation and people suffered
We were knocked down
But our nation
Is not one to give-up
In times of trials
We unite
We pick ourselves back up
We help others pick themselves up
We become
One Nation
One Philippines

Prayers and positive thoughts out to the victims and those affected by the typhoons.
