More wine please.

More wine please.

On Sunday mornings, when you feel that hunger left over by Saturday night’s partying and are craving something sweet, savory and everything in-between; a heavy breakfast would be in order. If you were too drunk and wasted the night before, though, then waking up late usually means that the good stuff has already been taken and eaten. What will satisfy your insatiable hunger then?

New World Hotel Makati and Domaine Chandon made sure that the party keeps on going on – but in a more sophisticated and elegant manner – by hosting a Chandon Sunday Brunch at Café 1228.

Lobsters, oysters and salads.

Lobster tails, oysters and salads.

Café 1228 offered a wide array of dishes made to satisfy the taste buds and overwhelm the belly. From Japanese to Chinese to Middle Eastern to Italian to Filipino to North American dishes; there was so much to choose from and careful planning was required in order to taste them all.

Breakfast sushi

Breakfast sushi.

I never had sushi for breakfast, but it was a good day to try some. And, as expected, the fish were fresh.

A master chef carving US prime beef.

After having my fill of sushi alongside a glass of Chandon Brut, which paired really well with the clean taste of the fish washed down by the fruity and spicy notes of the sparkling wine; I walked around to see what other tasty morsels I could chew on and found myself at the grill station.

Aside from the delectable choices of cured meat, not shown here were some hummus and choices of hors d’oeuvres.

Rounds 2 and 3. A few things can really say fancy like lobster tails for brunch.

Okay, not the typical ham and eggs. I decided to have a couple of lobster tails, fresh oysters (which you can ask for either fresh or baked), some Caesar salad on the side and a slice of tender US prime rib eye roast beef and a side of mash. I can still taste that juicy, juicy roast beef as of writing this article. Oh yeah, I also had another helping of that Chandor Brut to wash things down.

All the spices you could ever want for your dim sum.

Chinese food must be my second favorite type of food besides Filipino and I’m sure that everything was really good, but I had to pass since I wanted to taste everything that I don’t usually get to eat.

Delectable and mouth watering cheeses.

Then the cheese. Oh, how I love cheese! Its texture, its taste and how it can melt in your mouth, leaving a pleasurable aftertaste. We tasted everything and it would be important to note that their cheese is quite sharp and best taken with sweet chutney, nuts or dried fruit – especially the blue cheese, which can kick you in the nose and tastebuds with its strong taste. I especially loved the brie paired with walnuts, grapes and dried apricots. It is all best washed down with a glass of mimosa, which is one part champagne or sparkling wine and here we have the Chandor Brut and one part orange juice.

Viva Italia!

Of course, no proper buffet would be complete without fresh pasta. I also had a bowl of the cream of pumpkin soup for my 4th round.

Tiramisu.

No proper meal can end without dessert, either! If you have a sweet tooth, then you should leave some space since there are a lot of things to choose from, such as fresh fruits, sherbets, delicious fudge, mango tarts, ice creams, brownies and crêpe ala mode, pastries, local sweet sticky rice, pies, apple strudels cakes and more! My plate can just hold enough!

After 2 hours of wining and dining, it was time to leave. This champion definitely had his fill for the day. For only PHP2,000 a head, this brunch of unlimited food choices (and bottomless wine!) in your Sunday’s best definitely isn’t bad at all!
