New Modus Operandi DOGNAPPING: Stealing Family Dogs and Pets to Sell for Profit

What one family thought was a simple lost pet, turns out to be something more than anyone could have expected. Through careful analysis of CCTV footage and investigations, we believe that there is now a new modus operandi of stealing dogs, or DOGNAPPING, to sell these expensive pure breed dogs for a profit.

Stolen Dog / Dognapped Pet – Cooper

#PLEASERETURNCOPPER

Copper, our beloved Pomeranian, has been missing since May 18, 2014 (Sunday). He was last seen by our helper before she left the house between 7:30 to 8:00 AM, while my brother and I were still sleeping. I went down and knew Copper was missing at around 9:30 AM. Our house has a wooden and screen door, and at that time, the door was unlocked. We have been in this neighborhood for 25 years already, and it is not uncommon for us to leave the door unlocked as it has been always safe to do so – until two weeks ago.

We live in a village of roughly 150 houses, with a guarded main gate and rows of houses adjacent to each other. After days of investigation and interrogations, it was already established that Copper didn’t escape when our helper went out twice that morning (you know how dogs get giddy when someone is going out of the house), and he is just within the village because the guards would have seen him (they make rounds every 30 minutes) and the CCTV told us so as there is a camera at the only gate / entrance to the village. Even if he did escape, I, personally, assume the good in everyone and it would not be long before someone will return him to us – maybe they just found him so adorable and decided to keep him for a day or two. It has been 2 weeks since.

OUR SUSPICION:

Yes, it was negligent of the helper to leave the door unlocked while no one was downstairs – but it is more unimaginable that someone from this middle-class neighborhood (Well, the government is a proof that we can’t trust the rich, too.) broke in our house and took our dog away from us. Unfortunately, there is no CCTV focused directly on our street to prove that. It remains our suspicion for now, and the suspects remain at large.  WHOEVER TOOK COPPER IS FROM OUR STREET – THAT’S FOR SURE, AND HE/SHE/THEY ALREADY TOOK HIM OUT OF THE VILLAGE THAT SAME DAY. The suspect most likely has a non-resident companion/visitor who has a car and got away easily. The security does car inventory at night, and among those logged is a dark-colored Toyota van belonging to an outsider who goes regularly to the village. It was seen leaving the premises at around 11:30 AM that morning (according to the guards and CCTV) but was not checked because they were already familiar with it. The car and the visitor were not seen since. The incompetence of security guidelines has been questioned a lot of times but that is of no use now.

We posted notices and distributed fliers, did house-to-house within hours upon realizing Copper was missing. We have reviewed the available CCTV footages, security logs, checked Cartimar, but we still do not have concrete evidence or even witnesses (except for our other dog) to pin down or even (re)question the suspects. Of course, no one will admit to such shameful deed. If there is such thing as a “perfect crime,” we are not allowing this to be one. We just know whoever took it is not in it TO SELL IT, but to KEEP IT FOR HIM/HERSELF – thus, a reward might be useless.

COPPER is MALE, ORANGE SABLE in color (or copper, as his name suggests), size is approximately 10 INCHES HEIGHT, 12 INCHES LENGTH (He can fit in a bag easily!), friendly, always smiling, loves foot rubs and has mole-ish birthmarks somewhere down his belly. Please, please, if you know someone, a neighbor, a friend, or whoever who has acquired a Pomeranian dog in the last 2 weeks and the source is dubious or unknown, it might be Copper. We would appreciate any leads. You may tip us at 0998-5541969 or 0915-3668517 / chua.trice@gmail.com. Copper is family and we are still hoping for his return. Thank you!

UPDATE UPDATE COOPER DOGNAPPING UPDATE June 19

DAY 32: COPPER IS HOME !!!!  Someone finally heard our plea! To those who were asking what happened, here’s the story:

I got a text around 3PM today: “my ngbgy ng aso po d2 pwd po b kau pumunta..” I immediately called up the number to check out if it was legit. And it was! It was the village admin!

Mom was in tears when he claimed him and got the story from the guards. Earlier this afternoon, a male person approached our village guard and returned Copper in a dog bag. He claimed he was just walking outside our village when someone (in a red car with no plate number) called out and asked him to return the dog, paying him P100 pesos. The person in the car supposedly said we gave out fliers outside the village (which we did not do), that’s why he knew where to return the dog.

One of the guards asked the male person who returned Copper where he lived and found out that he is from Parañaque and Copper came from there as well – just as we suspected. Coincidence??? :)) We don’t think so! But anyway… what’s important is he’s back!

He is not in his best shape but we are just so so so so happy that Happy Dog Camp/our family is complete again!!!!  Thank you/no thank you to the person who took and returned our baby doggie! We’ll just let karma run its course.  Thank you to everyone who showed their concern, offered help to find Copper and shared our happiness today. He’s finally home and we’ll never lose him again!  Thank you, Lord, I won’t have to sing “Waiting for Your Love” anymore! Hahaha.

Lesson learned: always lock the front door and don’t trust eccentric neighbors!

Am so haaapppyyyy, and here’s proof that this is not just a dream! WELCOME HOME COPPERNICUS!!!  ‪#‎copperishome‬
