National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin is regarded as the most distinguished Filipino writer in English.

He has published a robust body of work that covers novels, short stories, poetry, plays, and journalism. New audiences can soon be introduced to his brilliance with the reissue of Manila, My Manila, which was first published in 1990.

The nonfiction title is a biography of the city of Manila, written as a popular history book that young Manilans would enjoy. Then Manila Mayor Mel Lopez invited Joaquin to write the book, and he “complied with a will. The first edition of Manila, My Manila was distributed exclusively to the city’s schools.”

Milflores Publishing will reissue the new edition of the book. The publishing house is known for its books that spark conversations, promote learning, and fuel the imagination. This new edition will feature an introduction by Jose F. Lacaba.

Milflores previously published Joaquin’s biography of Jose Rizal, called Rizal in Saga: A Life for Student Fans. It also features annotation by Ambeth Ocampo, who is regarded as the authority on Jose Rizal.

The publishing house announced the reissue of Manila, My Manila at this year’s Philippine Book Festival, in time for the National Artist’s 20th death anniversary.

Milflores will release the new edition at the Manila International Book Fair, which will be from September 11 to 15, 2024, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
