MODUS OPERANDI: Beware of Street Kids Taking Car Parts in Quezon City

This past week, news of street children going wild and just annoying motorists have been spreading all over social media. Just a few days ago, we posted about their game of rock throwing on unsuspecting motorist above EDSA tunnel. Today, they seem to have found something new to pass the time.

We’re unsure if these are the same set of kids, but either way, we urge everyone to be extra cautious when on the road.

Street Kids in QC

Sa mga may kotse diyan, beware of street children dahil may bago (?) silang modus na ginagawa. This happened to me 2 days ago while onboard a taxi going to QC. Naka stop kami sa may Araneta Ave. corner E. Rodriguez Ave. ng may 3 batang pulubi na namamalimos at panay ang katok sa salamin ng taxi. 2 kids sa driver side and another kid sa kabilang side. Of course hindi namin sila pinansin kasi napaka rude mamalimos. I don’t know if nabebenta yun o ginagawa lang nila yun kapag tumanggi ka magbigay ng limos. Still, malaking abala yan. So pag may namalimos sa inyo, be observant at baka binabaklas na din parts ng kotse nyo.”

Rough English Translation:

To all the cars out there, beware of street children because they have a new modus going on. This happened to me 2 days ago while on board a taxi going to QC. We were stopped somewhere around Araneta Ave., cor. E. Rodriguez Ave. when three begging street children kept knocking on the windows of the cab. 2 kids were at the driver side and another kid on the other side. Of course, we tried to ignore them as their manner of begging was very rude. After a while, a street vendor selling cigarettes approached our cab and said that the kids took out a part of the cab. Turns out, they took the cover that was near the wiper of the car (see attached photo). The taxi driver chased after him and was able to recover 3 of these “covers” from the kids. Turns out, the kids have already victimized 3 other cars. I don’t know if they sell those or they’re just doing it when people refuse to give them alms. Still, what they’re doing is really such a hassle. So next time a street kid comes begging, be observant ‘coz they might already be taking parts from your car.

Yikes, these cases are getting worse. What do you guys think of this? Have you ever experienced something like this?
