“Captain” Michelle Dee soared high in her national costume for the 72nd Miss Universe competition! She wowed the netizens and audience in El Salvador today, November 17, with her gorgeous airplane-inspired outfit created by Filipino designer Michael Barassi.
Representing the Philippines as “resilient, radiant, and ready to embrace the Universe,” her national costume featured the colors of the Philippine flag and highlighted a mural of the country’s “most breathtaking sights” at the back, along with the Philippine tourism slogan #LoveThePhilippines. And to give a nod to her role as an Air Force reservist, the beauty donned an elegant captain’s hat!

In an Instagram post, Dee gave a closer look at her national costume, describing, “In the grand tapestry of the Philippines comes a National costume as stunning as its archipelago. Behold, Sergeant Michelle Marquez Dee, Miss Universe Philippines, adorned in the nation’s pride and heritage. With each thread woven into the “solihiya” pattern, an iconic design used in the tropics of the Philippines, it embraces her body flawlessly — unfolding the story of the islands’ unity and artistry.”
She added, “Wearing an amazing creation by @barassimichael! Giving justice to a concept that aims to promote tourism to the country WE ARE PROUD TO SHOWCASE TO THE UNIVERSE. #CaptainMMD, over and out.”
Dee is aiming to bring home the Philippines’ fifth Miss Universe crown. According to the Miss Universe Philippines organization, she was among the delegates who secured a spot in the Top 10 Silver Finalists of the pageant’s Voice for Change category.
