“The world’s most famous lion cub may have gotten some of his moves from our very own Bahati!” the Dallas Zoo said in a Facebook post accommodated with a cute video.
In The Lion King, the film’s main character is a lion named Simba. He’s the rightful heir to the whole animal kingdom and apparently, Bahati The Cub is to thank as she’s actually the model behind baby Simba in the live-action remake.
Bahati Moja, or Bahati for short, means “lucky one” in Swahili – which is pretty accurate considering being the cub the movie was modeled after. She’s an adorable female lion cub belonging to The Dallas Zoo who recently uploaded an incredibly cute video of Bahati.
Dallas Zoo shared the video on its Facebook page with the caption: “BAHATI OR SIMBA?: The world’s most famous lion cub may have gotten some of his moves from our very own Bahati!
“When Bahati was just a month old, we provided Disney with a video of her movements for their animation team to use for motion and behavior reference when designing Simba in The Lion King.”
“From walking on wobbly new legs, to licking milk droplets off of her face, we captured every moment, no matter how small. So now you MUST go see Disney’s The Lion King, and let us know if you see any bit of baby Bahati in Simba.”

Now, Bahati has grown up stunningly. Here’s a video of the lioness on her 2nd birthday:

LIONESS BIRTHDAY BASH ?: Baby Bahati will be 2 years old this Sunday! We can’t even believe how much she’s grown! She looks more and more like her mom Lina and her aunt Jasiri every day. In fact, she now weighs 260 pounds, which is just ONE POUND less than Lina. – We let Bahati celebrate early with a St. Patrick’s Day-themed party today, complete with cakes made of ice, meat and frozen whipped cream for all the girls. We hope this gets your weekend off to a great start!
