Mar Roxas visited the University of San Jose–Recoletos (USJR), a private university in Cebu last November 12, 2015. He discussed his impending plans for the Philippines, as expected from a presidential candidate. However, Mar Roxas apparently joked by pronouncing “step by step” as “isteep bay isteep,” trying to do a Visayan accent impression. This was taken as a “bad joke” by his audience — a university with outstanding English speakers.
Kristian Caumeran corrected, “Sir, the Visayan term for “step by step” is “ginagmay’ng lakang.” He added, “But since you came from a superior dialect, we’ll just let this pass.”
Ms. Jessa deemed Roxas as, “such an arrogant person.” She also said that Mar Roxas was the first ever politician who made fun of the way they speak in English.
Do you think Mar Roxas’ joke was out of line? What do you think about this issue?

I don’t know why you Ms. Kristin Mateo choose to write about Mar’s mistake of having tried to speak in Bisaya instead of the content of his speech. I want journalists to provide us with better basis for voting or not voting a candidate. I hope to read if we do not vote for Mar Roxas then who should we vote for? I guess Grace Poe. Otherwise, by default Binay wins.
An overseas absentee voter.
HE’S OUT OF THE LINE AND OUT OF HIS MIND. IT’S NOT A WHIM FOR HIM. HE’S MAR ROXAS ANYWAY. A HEARTLESS ELITIST AND A DIRTY PLAYER.
. . The mouth has gotten far ahead of the brain and already all heavy guns are played against Mar Roxas. Why be compelled to use pat phrases you think could make you in only to find out that it raised linguistic misfire and word abuse being things not common to you. People seeking elective office should know that every wrong is there for all to see and that misstatements are eternal. They will be replayed by an unfriendly media until they become part of your legacy.
Filipinos are extra-sensitive to insults, balat sibuyas, i like Kristian Caumeran’s reaction “let it pass”
Mar roxas is a big joke
