Acclaimed director Makoto Shinkai is set to rip our hearts to shreds once again with his new upcoming anime film, Tenki no Ko: Weathering With You.

Weathering With You tells the story of a teenage boy named Hodaka, who moves to Tokyo and becomes a writer for a magazine. There, he meets a girl named Hina, who has the ability to control the weather and clear rainy skies.

Shinkai has made waves globally with his beautiful yet emotional films, namely 5 Centimeters Per Second (2007) and Garden of Words (2013). His most recent work, Kimi No Na Wa: Your Name (2016), received critical acclaim and is currently the highest grossing anime movie of all time, overtaking Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away (2001). Weathering With You will be his sixth full-length film and will be released in Japanese theaters on July 19, 2019.
