Mackenyu in Manila? Yes, please!
I was lucky enough to meet and interview the One Piece cast when I went to Brazil for Netflix’s TUDUM event a few months ago. This was before the show actually aired on Netflix.
Now that the One Piece live-action adaptation has taken the world by storm, I’ve been following the cast all the more closely, and on September 18, Mackenyu posted an Instagram story about him getting ready for a con. He didn’t specifically mention which con it was, but I’ve been keeping tabs on possible cons he could go to so I can see him in the flesh once again.

What I didn’t expect was that the con would be right here in the Philippines and that we might actually be able to see Mackenyu in Manila!
In case you haven’t heard of ManiPopCon before, it’s a convergence of generations of Filipino geeks, uniting to usher in the golden age of geeks. After a hiatus due to the pandemic, they are finally making a comeback, and this time, they are taking over Ayala Malls Manila Bay from November 17 to 19, 2023.
Now, full disclaimer: it hasn’t been officially announced yet, but the con’s Facebook page has posted this little teaser on their Facebook page a few weeks ago:

I mean… that silhouette is 100% Zoro, isn’t it? I mean… we can almost be certain we’ll be seeing in Mackenyu in Manila, right? Whether it is Mackenyu or not, though, we’re still super stoked for ManiPopCon 2023! Will you be attending, too?
