Baguio is one of those places that never loses its charm. Every time I travel there, I always find myself in awe of its lush greenery and abundance of blossoms in the most vivid of reds, yellows, pinks and purples, scattered about in parks, sidewalks and main roads. During my latest journey up North, I found a renewed appreciation for strawberries, the city’s warm and friendly people, and its cool yet comfortable “fridge weather.” I also found a quaint little nook to hide in after a long day of exploring, tucked in the crevices of its pine tree-littered slopes.

Purple color scheme, and our breakfast for day two

My first independent venture in Baguio (without family, that is) involved hunting for the best local spots to eat, looking for affordable lodging, and making up an itinerary as we went along. I was lucky enough to stumble upon Lucia’s Bed and Breakfast while searching for places to stay in Baguio. It’s a charming house-turned-bed-and-breakfast by Ms. Lucille, who was also our host during our stay at the B&B.

Lemon cakes and tea greeted us as we arrived, as well as this pretty living area

Lucia’s Bed and Breakfast, which is named after Ms. Lucille and her daughter Lia, is every bit the quintessential shabby-chic rest house you’ve imagined it to be. Everything about this B&B, from the little knickknacks that line its shelves, down to the fragrant morning tea we were served, are Ms. Lucille’s own items. The furnishings and little trinkets the fill the B&B, even some of the sheets, are personal belongings from Ms. Lucille’s former homes abroad. It is these little details that give Lucille’s Bed and Breakfast that warm and homely feel.

Adding to Lucia’s Bed & Breakfast’s shabby-chic vibes are the abundance of distressed wood window frames that adorn its colorful walls in calm hues and the hand-painted murals unique to each room. Accommodations come with free breakfasts prepared at your requested time, and guests are free to use the home’s kitchen and dining area to cook and prepare meals.

Common kitchen and dining area

If you are travelling to Baguio with your family (or a big party of 10), you can choose to rent out the entire basement section of the home (where we stayed). It has a living and dining area, kitchen, as well as foosball and pool tables and about six bedrooms, roomy enough to house a large family on vacation. Large windows from the living area open to the slopes of land dotted with pine trees and invite lots of natural light in during the mornings.

We stayed in this comfy room worth only PHP 1,800, super sulit!

Rooms can also be rented separately, and are great for couples or groups of friends looking for a quiet place to stay in Baguio while still having the tourist spots and the town square within reach. Since the B&B adjoins a private home, there’s a curfew of 12 midnight and house rules to look into. This shouldn’t be a problem for families and couples looking to have some quiet time.

I’d like to personally thank Ms. Lucille for welcoming us to their home, and for making our Baguio trip especially enjoyable. Do check out Lucia’s Bed and Breakfast when in Baguio, it truly is “a warm home amidst the cool weather in the City of Pines.”
