​The Wanderlust Surge: Visa Demands Skyrocket as Filipino Travelers Fly Out in Record Numbers

Visa application volume from the Philippines across all categories registered a 20 percent year-on-year increase from January to August 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to an analysis by VFS Global, the global leader in technology services for governments and citizens.

Applications for non-Schengen destinations grew by 28 percent, while demand for Schengen destinations remained steady.

​Australia, Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the UK were the most popular non-Schengen destinations for Filipino travelers during this period. Meanwhile, the top Schengen destinations were Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

​Strong demand for personalized offerings remained a defining trend, with the Visa At Your Doorstep (VAYD) service recording a 58 percent year-on-year growth.

VAYD allows applicants to complete their entire application process—including document submission, biometric enrolment, and passport delivery—from their homes or any preferred location.

“As travel volumes continue to increase, we encourage applicants to plan their journeys early and submit their visa applications well ahead of departure. We also urge travelers to stay cautious and rely only on official channels for visa-related information and services, as fraudulent actors often seek to take advantage of periods of high demand,” he added.

​VFS Global serves 36 sovereign governments in the Philippines through a network of 64 visa application centres across eigth cities: Batangas City, Cebu, Davao, Makati, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City, and Taguig.

The governments served include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Gambia, Germany, Greece (representing Portugal), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Lithuania, Malta, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Oman (visa, medical, and attestation services), Qatar (visa and medical services), Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands (representing Latvia), Türkiye, the UAE (Dubai visa and attestation services), the UK, and Ukraine.

​VFS Global’s role in the visa application process is strictly limited to front-end administrative tasks, including collecting application forms, gathering required documentation, and enrolling biometrics where applicable. VFS Global plays no role in the decision-making process to grant or refuse visas.
