LOOK: Medals For Tokyo 2020 Olympics Are Made From Recycled Phones

It seems that the Japanese are at it again! From their Prime Minister dressing up as Mario to making a Pokemon an ambassador for tourism, they still have a lot of tricks up their sleeve. This time, they’re taking a step further in saving the earth–through recycling hundreds of unused electronics.

The unveiled designs for the medals for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be sustainable. In fact, according to the organizers, it is considered as the first sustainable medals in Olympic history. The medals will be made from recycled mobile phones from all over Japan. So far, they were able to save 32 kilograms of gold, 3,500 kilograms of silver and 2,200 kilograms of copper and zinc. Way to go, Japan!
