LOOK: “Bridgerton” Season 5 Teaser Introduces Queer Romance Arc

Netflix has released a short teaser for Bridgerton season five, giving fans an early look at what appears to be a queer romance. The 30-second clip doesn’t include any dialogue but focuses on Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza) sharing a quiet moment on a balcony. Their fingers lightly touch as they look out over the courtyard, hinting at a developing connection.

Michaela’s character first appeared at the end of season three and sparked discussion among viewers familiar with Julia Quinn’s original novels, where the character was written as Michael Stirling. The show’s gender change is part of its ongoing effort to diversify its cast and stories.

Showrunner Jess Brownell has previously commented that the team wanted to highlight “queer joy” rather than trauma, aiming to show queer relationships that can lead to a happy ending—fitting with the series’ overall focus on romance and personal growth.

Season five will continue the series’ tradition of centering on different Bridgerton siblings each season. Francesca, whose own storyline took a dramatic turn in season five, appears to take the spotlight this time.

Netflix has not announced a release date, but production is underway. Fans can watch the teaser now for a first look at what’s to come.
