While I do enjoy barbecue occasionally, eating too much of it makes me feel heavy and bloated. Fat Daddy’s Smokehouse is my only exception because never in my wildest dreams could I ever imagine barbecue tasting like this.
For someone who tends to choose salads and veggies over fried food, I was surprised by how I practically inhaled their Hot Pork Poppers! One of my greatest weaknesses is chicharon and at Php175 per platter, it is absolutely worth every centavo for its sheer crispiness.
Hot Pork Poppers – Php175
The poppers are fried to perfection with their signature in-house barbecue blend. And the sauce is divine! Move over, basic mayonnaise, because their peidmont sauce is specially made with yummy apple cider vinegar to cater to Filipino tastebuds.
I’ve been adventurous with atay before. It goes surprisingly well with tsokolate, but I didn’t expect the Buttermilk Fried Livers to taste as good as they did. Even their atay is treated to their delicious barbecue sauce.
Buttermilk Fried Livers – Php210
Don’t you love the feeling of food in your mouth that is crunchy and soft at the same time while bombarding your tongue with an explosion of flavor? This dish is exactly that! It is something that you and your barkada will totally enjoy together.
Ultimate Pulled Pork and Bacon Nachos – half at Php330 / whole at Php600
One of the most stunning plates of nachos I’ve ever seen in my life is their Ultimate Pulled Pork and Bacon Nachos. Honestly, this is a plate you’ll probably take a snap of and send to your friends to make them jealous as it is both delicious and huge!
I absolutely hate it when you get to the middle of a good plate of nachos only to find it naked of condiments. You won’t find that problem here because that pork is everywhere! The jalapeños didn’t even bother me, the girl who cried after eating fire noodles; so trust me: it’s just that yummy.
But while the appetizers alone are already good reasons to make the trip, their meat platter is the crowning gem on Fat Daddy’s crown. All of the best meats in their repertoire is here from the tantalizing Smoked Beef Brisket to the sublime Dibs on Ribs to the airy goodness of their Pulled Pork to their sizzling sausages all smoked in-house! You cannot miss any of these and the platter is super sulit as you can share it with up to 6 people for Php2400!
Bacon lovers, don’t feel left out just yet because wait until you hear about their scrumptious mashed potatoes! The Hotmess is a party for your tastebuds because they use bacon oil for this dish. These mashed potatoes completely reinvented what I thought mashed potatoes could be. The barbecue sauce enhances the flavor and the potatoes just melt in your mouth with how soft they are.
But bacon isn’t just mixed into their potatoes, either. Oh, no. Their bacon is mixed into their milkshakes, too! A bacon milkshake is something you think you’ll only get to see on a viral post online; but no, it’s a reality here and it’s a dream come true for me. I’m still thinking about it even now.
Bacon Milkshake – Php195
The Caramel Popcorn milkshake is for the wild ones among us because this drink confused me. The entire time I was drinking it, I kept thinking, “Why am I sipping this and not chewing it?” The confusion just makes it tastier, though, in my opinion.
Bacon and S’mores Dip – Php250
Probably one of the most unexpected bacon combinations is the Bacon and S’mores Dip. I don’t eat a lot of s’mores because they’re a bit too sweet for me. The bacon and the semi-sweet chocolate completely solve this for me. Just look at the gorgeous fluffy clouds nestled above a sea of chocolatey goodness. It’s too cute to eat, but too good not to devour!
If normal barbecue is too basic for you, your tastebuds are going to cry tears of joy because barbecue has never been better. They explore what it means to be barbecue and elevate it while also mixing in some distinctly Filipino elements.
