Art has always been a part of Leslie’s life. From marrying into a family of artists to collecting beautiful pieces, she cultivated a deep appreciation for the craft. However, the idea of creating art herself was something that didn’t cross her mind—until one fateful evening. After a long day of work as a marketing consultant, she stumbled upon the mesmerizing style of fluid art painting. Enamored by the way colors flowed and danced together, Leslie decided to take a leap of faith. At the lovely age of 48, she embarked on her artistic journey.

Never in all prior years did Leslie think she would find herself in front of a blank canvas, paint in hand, ready to create. But Filipinos are known for their optimism and resilience, and Leslie firmly believed it’s never too late to turn dreams into reality.

Leslie diligently researched various artistic approaches, delving into the Philippines’ rich cultural tapestry of art styles, which are rooted in traditionalist and realist techniques. Initially discouraged, she realized that at the core of these various styles was a shared passion for self-expression. Through practice, painting became a form of meditation for her, especially during challenging times, such as caring for her cancer-stricken sister. Art emerged as Leslie’s respite and comfort.

Taking inspiration from the natural elements present in the Philippines, Leslie viewed life through her unique lens, considering the philosophical and spiritual meanings behind what she observed. Working predominantly in an abstract style, she relied heavily on her instinct. Her art is intuitive, allowing her to experiment, explore different outcomes, and challenge conventional realist paintings. Just as the paint flows freely on her canvas, so too does her heart, guided by emotion. Some of her notable works include “Ilaw” and “Alitaptap.”

With encouragement from loved ones, Leslie established “Leslie Galerie,” an online platform to showcase and share her work with the world. This support allowed her to be true to herself and grow as an artist. At the sweet age of 50, she launched her first-ever exhibit, presenting her collection, “My Golden Era,” featuring acrylic and mixed media paintings that celebrate her journey as an artist in her 50s. This milestone also enabled Leslie to connect with other artists and art enthusiasts, fostering a deeper sense of community and culture.

In her new collection, “Vibrance: Blooming Colors,” Leslie celebrates nature’s captivating hues. Each piece is a dynamic blend of color that brings life to any space. Through various colors, textures, and shapes, she explores the importance of individuality, showcasing the unique offerings of nature. From delicate pastels to deep, rich hues, this collection underscores that beauty often sprouts from the most unexpected places, much like flowers blossoming from the dirt. The rustic backgrounds and canvases serve as a testament to the vibrancy of life, with each vase carrying a colorful homage to nature’s artistry. After all, sometimes all you need is a pop of color!

Leslie’s journey is a tribute to all late bloomers who aspire to connect with the rich tradition of art. It is never too late to seize the chance to paint on a blank canvas, explore the depths of one’s creativity, and celebrate the vibrancy of life through the lens of art.
