On the heels of “A Very Good Girl”‘s box office success, Kathryn Bernardo fronts Preview’s November 2023 cover—and it’s her most daring cover shoot to date!
Photographed by Charisma Lico, Kathryn poses for Preview wearing nothing but a red heart bra by Filipino designer brand Randolf and Alexander Wang trousers. The twofold cover features contrasting images of Kath: one standing still in a state of rawness, and another one screaming at herself. “Good Girl Gone Bad,” the blurb reads.
“Society has always imposed this pressure on Kath to be the proverbial good girl,” Marj Ramos-Clemente, Preview’s Editor-in-Chief, explains the concept behind the cover. “She’s had to deal with these impossible standards growing up. But now well into adulthood, Kath has learned to live her most authentic self and break free from that ‘good girl’ archetype.”
In the cover story, Kathryn talks about her journey toward self-discovery and how she liberated herself from societal expectations. “I feel like mas kilala ko na sarili ko, so I don’t have to please everybody. I just do things that make me happy,” the 27-year-old actress tells Preview. “Nung tumanda ako, I [no longer] think of the pressure of being a ‘good girl,’ because I don’t want to be good just because I have to be good. I don’t want to lose myself.”
Another layout from her Preview cover shoot shows Kathryn nearly drowning but managing to rise from the aquarium, alluding to how she has overcome the typecast that society had boxed her in most of her life.
As far as her craft is concerned though, Kathryn asserts that she never found herself restricted. “Hindi ako na-limit, because I’m very vocal kung ano ’yung gusto ko at kung ano ’yung ayaw ko,” she explains. “I’m very open with [my] management. If I don’t like it, they don’t force [me]. Kapag may ’di ako comfortable gawin, I say no politely. And I think ’yun ’yung nakatulong talaga, na kailangan mo gawin ’yung mga bagay nagpapasaya sa’yo.”
