John Denver Trending, the multiple award-winning Cinemalaya film, will play in cinemas in South Korea.
It will be the first Filipino film to be released with wide screenings throughout the country.
According to the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the film will be released on November 23, 2022, at CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox in major Korean cities.
John Denver Trending follows the story of a grade 8 student whose life is overturned when he is accused of stealing. He assaults his accuser, and a video of the incident is posted on social media. It is inspired by true stories.
The film stars Jansen Magpusao, Meryll Soriano, Glenn Mas, Sunshine Teodoro, Sammy Rubido, Vince Philip Alegre, Jofranz Ambubuyog, Christian Alarcon, Zandro Leo Canlog, Luz Venus, Andy Yuarata, Estela Patino, and Renato Sagot.
It is the first feature film directed by Arden Rod Condez. The film was shot in Pandan, Antique, the director’s hometown, and features Kiniray-a, the native language of Antiqueños.
At the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2019, John Denver Trending won Best Film, Best Actor for Jansen Magpusao, Best Original Music Score, Editing, Cinematography, and the NETPAC Jury Award for Main Competition. It also won 15 awards at film festivals around the world.
