It’s normal to have misunderstandings and arguments with one’s spouse, and for Jessy Mendiola, one fight with Luis Manzano in particular almost ended their marriage.
In a “Truth or Dare” vlog with Luis posted last Sunday, September 8, Jessy didn’t back down from the question that asked her to describe the moment when she nearly broke up with her husband.
“‘Yun ‘yung time na may mga tao sa paligid niya na talagang hindi okay. Nasama ako sa issue,” she confessed.
She shared that an unnamed individual kept harassing her after she and Luis got married, saying: “Kinasal kami tapos the next day, inaway-away ako nung taong ‘yon. Kaya pala galit na galit siya sakin kasi may tinatago siyang sikretong karumaldumal, na malala. Do’n ko naamoy na parang, ‘May something itong taong ito. Bakit galit na galit siya na kinasal kami?'”
And although Jessy opened up to Luis about it, she said that Luis argued with her instead to the point that she felt he was taking that person’s side over hers.
“Ayaw niya talagang patibag. Inaaway niya talaga ako. As in talagang away,” she said. “Kulang na lang kampihan niya ‘yung mga taong ‘yun, nu’ng sinabi ko sa kanya, nagagalit pa siya sa akin tapos hindi niya ako pinapansin. Sinasabi niya sa akin, ‘Mali ka. Matagal ko na silang kilala. Halos kababata ko sila, part of the family.’ Eh ako, hindi ba part of the family?”
She then revealed that she spoke to Luis’ mom Vilma Santos about her feelings. “Nagpaalam na talaga ako kay Momski no’n. Sabi ko, ‘Momski, hindi ko na talaga po kaya. Mahal ko po kayo pero hindi na po ako pinapakinggan ng asawa ko sa totoo.'”
In time, however, Luis eventually realized that Jessy was telling the truth. “It wasn’t easy. Gradual na nangyari na nakakalas siya sa mga taong ‘yun.”
In the end, Jessy regarded the whole situation as God’s challenge for them to learn and grow from as a couple.
“‘Yung feeling parang gusto mo na lang talaga siyang iwan pero oo nga pala, kasal nga pala tayo. Hindi tayo pwedeng basta-basta maghiwalay. I guess ginawa ‘yon ni Lord para mas mapalakas ‘yung relationship natin sa isa’t isa.”
It is unclear whether it is what Jessy was referring to in that vlog but it can be recalled that Luis was involved in a gas station investment scam case in 2023 and was eventually cleared from criminal charges as he no longer had connections with the company at that time.
Luis and Jessy tied the knot in 2021 and welcomed their daughter, Rosie, in December 2022.
