In an interview with Karen Davila, James expressed his gratitude to Nadine and everyone who supported them at the height of JaDine’s popularity, which later on became a “model” or “representation” for Filipino love teams.

“It was a phenomenon. It kind of reached a climax; It was definitely something special… It gave me so much,” he said.  “I’m so grateful to the fans, to Nadine, to the loveteam, and also everyone who gave us projects.”

However, being in a loveteam at a young age also opened up a lot of toxicity that affected their personal lives.

“It was very new for something to reach that level of craziness; there was a lot of toxic culture around it. It can’t be that big and that culturally impactful without also having a downside. I think it was mentally stressful for me and Nadine, and I think it opened up a lot of toxic kind of behavior with the audience,” he said.

“But I think we’ve all learned a lot since then. It’s different now, so it’s time for a new type of celebrity or love team even. I think they’re doing something new now. I don’t think they should try to repeat it or copy it, but maybe learn from it and make it better,” he added.

Karen asked the 32-year-old actor if he would want to be part of a loveteam again, but he expressed that he is more excited for bigger opportunities ahead in his career.

“Actually, I plan to return to acting. I have a teleserye currently that’s in the works, and I will be working with a female lead, a co-actor, a very talented actress. I can’t announce just yet, but in due time, it will be taping this year,” he revealed.

More details about the Randomatic singer’s upcoming project are yet to be revealed, but he emphasized that he would prefer to work with other female actresses without being boxed into a love team.

“I want to be able to work with other actors, especially other female leads, but I don’t think it has to become a love team where we blur the lines between real and TV and private and public,” he candidly said.

Meanwhile, the Never Not Love You actor shared that he has seen his former love team at public events and that they have remained “civil” with each other.

“Yeah, I’ve seen her at some events. I’ve seen her a few times and we’re civil,” he said. “There’s no problem certainly with me [but] I wish her all the best. She seems very happy.”

James Reid and Nadine Lustre reached breakthrough success when they starred in the 2014 romantic-comedy film Diary ng Panget. They also worked on more projects, such as Talk Back and You’re Dead, Para sa Hopeless Romantic, On The Wings of Love, and Never Not Love You, among others.

In 2016, the former loveteam publicly confirmed that they were in a relationship. Four years later, they announced their split. James is now in a relationship with social media personality Issa Pressman, while Nadine is in a relationship with businessman Christophe Bariou.
